Emily Botel, violin

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, violinist Emily Botel has performed throughout North America and Europe. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a minor in Psychology from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music [SFCM]. Emily is recieved an Artist Diploma in Orchestral Studies as a member of the San Francisco Academy Orchestra. She has studied with renowned pedagogues Linda Cerone and David Updegraff, award winning soloist and chamber musician Ian Swensen, San Francisco Symphony members Catherine Van Hoesen and David Chernyavsky, and baroque violinists, Julie Andrijeski and Elizabeth Blumenstock. She has received many honors and awards including the Matinee Music Club of Philadelphia Instrumental Prize, the Mu Phi Epsilon Cleveland Heights Chapter Scholarship Award, and the William Wolski Violin Scholarship at SFCM.
In 2014 Emily appeared as a soloist with the San Francisco Academy Orchestra. She has also performed with orchestras such as the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, Monterey, Marin, Stockton and Oakland East Bay Symphonies, and at summer festivals with the Lake Tahoe Music Festival, New Hampshire Music Festival, Banff, Spoleto USA, and National Repertory Orchestras. She served as concertmaster for both the Cleveland Institute of Music and San Francisco Conservatory of Music orchestras. She is a founder of the unconducted chamber orchestra One Found Sound which seeks to break boundaries and make connections through exciting musical experiences.
As a chamber musician, her work has taken her to a variety of venues from the Concerts in Marin series with the Assisi Quartet to George Lucas’ Northern California wedding in 2013. Emily is a member of the San Francisco based string ensemble, The Arden Quartet, which performs on concert stages and at special events throughout the Bay Area. With a passion for early music, Emily is also a founding member of the baroque ensemble MUSA and has performed with both the San Francisco Bach Choir and the American Bach Soloists Academy. She has also played in concert for the Santa Cruz and Berkeley Fringe Baroque Festivals and Early Music America’s Young Performers Festival in 2014.
In addition to her classical work, Emily has performed with indie rock bands at The Fillmore, The Fox Oakland, Rickshaw Stop, and DNA Lounge and frequents recording studios, appearing on albums such as Hurley, by Weezer. She has played in sold out arenas with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and on festival stages including the Hardly-Strictly Bluegrass Festival. She performs and records with the Magik*Magik Orchestra and made her Stern Grove festival debut with the band Geographer. She feels lucky to have been able to perform love with some of her favorite bands like Journey and Third Eye Blind.
Emily is a Suzuki certified violin teacher and holds a private studio at her home in San Francisco.
